A companion in your child’s room has to be trustworthy at the seams, not just in the marketing. Here’s how we think about keeping VAL safe.

Our principles
Security isn’t a feature we bolt on; it shapes how VAL is built. We design for the smallest amount of data, the fewest people with access, and the assumption that safety has to hold even when something goes wrong.
How your data travels and rests
Conversations and account data are encrypted while moving between VAL and our servers, and encrypted while stored. Keys are managed carefully and rotated, and sensitive text is kept out of our logs by default.
Who can access what
Access to family data is limited to the few systems and people who genuinely need it, logged, and reviewed. No one on our team goes browsing through a child’s conversations.
Safe by design, even the face
VAL’s display can only ever show a face; there’s no input path, so it can’t become a screen to watch or a door into the device. That’s a deliberate safety decision as much as a design one.
