Why VAL

Everything that matters. Nothing that doesn’t.

VAL is a deliberate object. Screen-free, safety-first, and free of the gimmicks that dazzle in a launch video and end up under the bed by half-term. Here is what we chose to build, and what we chose to leave out.

Our first commitment

Safety isn’t a feature. It’s the reason VAL exists.

We built the hardest part first. Before VAL says a single word to your child, that word has passed through a safety layer we own and control, not one rented from a model that changes every month. Most products bolt safety on at the end. For us it was the beginning, and everything else is built on top of it.

VAL, Our first commitment

Where it goes

We spend on the things you can’t see.

Every penny goes into the experience and the safety: the intelligence, the voice, the character, the checks that run on every turn. Not into spectacle that photographs beautifully and wears off by the weekend. The best parts of VAL are the ones you never think about, because they simply work.

VAL, Where it goes

On purpose

We could have made it roll across the floor. We made it worth keeping instead.

Motors, wheels and blinking limbs are thrilling for an afternoon. Then the novelty fades, the robot ends up under the bed, and the cost of all that hardware is still on the receipt. We left it out on purpose. VAL is more affordable because of it, and every part of the budget went where it belongs: making VAL a better companion, for far longer.

VAL, On purpose

We’re not in the gadget business. We’re in the childhood business. That changes every decision we make.

Screen-free, always

The one thing every other device keeps adding. The one thing we never will.

A screen is the easy sell and the easy dopamine. It is also the thing that pulls a child out of the room and into a feed. VAL has a face, not a display. It looks up when your child speaks, and looks at them while they play. Presence, not pixels.

VAL, Screen-free, always

For the long run

A toy is for a season. A companion is for growing up.

VAL remembers, adapts and deepens as your child does. The stories grow longer, the questions grow harder, the friendship grows closer. It is built to be the thing they still reach for in three years, not the thing they had forgotten by February.

VAL, For the long run

What we stand for

Six promises, in one small object.

Safety first, always

Nothing reaches your child until it has cleared checks we own.

Screen-free by design

A face that looks back, never a feed that pulls away.

Owned, not rented

Our safety and character are ours, and they never regress.

No gimmicks

No motors, no fads, no theatre. Substance over spectacle.

Built to last

A friend for years, not a novelty for a fortnight.

Family-first

You stay close and VAL stays transparent, by default.

This is the companion we wanted for our own kids.
